My name is Cynthia Brower, and I am excited about the Technology Buffet Training we have planned for this evening. Let me tell you a few things about myself. I am a graduated of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro where I received a B. S. Degree in Business Administration. After the completion of my degree, I moved to Washington, DC, to pursue a career with a Fortune 500 company in Business Management. After 10 years in DC, I returned to NC to assist my father with his church. Once I was home, I was asked to teach business courses at the high school that I graduated from. Initially, I said no, because I did not see myself as a business educator; I saw myself as a business woman. After much persuading from the superintendent, who was then my guidance counselor in high school, I finally decided to give back and began teaching business courses such as Accounting I & II, Small Business and Entrepreurship, Marketing, Fashion Merchandising, and a Computer Applications. The secret was that I hardly knew anything about computers, and there I was teaching a computer class. Needless to say, I was really terrified with that course, but I got in and learned what I needed to know to teach the students. I really started to enjoy teaching the class, and I decided to attend the community college to learn about graphic art and design. Later, I was asked to go to a training to learn how to build and network computers.
After this training, I then began teaching students how to build, network and maintain computers. I also taught them how to build websites. Boy, I had come a long way! After teaching for 8 years, I became an Instructional Technology Facilitator for five k-12 schools in another district, and I decided to further my understanding of Instructional Technology. I received a Master's of Arts Degree in Instructional Design and Technology from University of North Dakota. I am now the Director of Instructional Technology for Beaufort County Schools.
I invite you to learn as much as you can and to have as much fun as I plan to have.
